What difference will it make?

It's really interesting the number of people that complain business is slow or that they don't have enough money. The very simple truth is that if you don't advertise you won't grow. Sure there are people that are around that have use you before, and they probably will again in the future, but if you base your business just on these people, then as their circumstances change and they drift away, your business will become quieter and quieter unless you're doing something to "fill the [sales] pipe'.

We get that no-one wants to advertise. We get that no-one wants to spend money unless they REALLY need to, but it is an ABSOLUTE FACT that if you don't advertise you won't grow. There is such a thing as 'too much' advertising, but the worst case scenario from this is only a reduced ROI (Return on Investment) - that some of that money spent will not result in an increase in sales. What you're aiming for is that 'sweet spot' where each dollar you spend gets you the best level of new sales. That is where Digital Billboard Advertising comes in. Studies have found a staggering increase in sales of $5.97 for ever $1.00 spent on digital advertising!

The point of effective marketing may not be actually to sell something anyway. A very good use of advertising is just to drive more traffic to your business (either website or physical store) simply because the more chances you have to sell your product or service the greater number you will. "Conversion" is the name of the actually selling stage of the process, it's the job of the advertising to give your business every possible chance to convert that you can, and the actual success of your conversion is another topic entirely.

How much would you sell if no-one ever came into your business? Digital billboards have a real strength in 'way finding' or directing traffic/people. Imagine if you were driving along and there was a sign that petrol was half price if you turned left up ahead, what would you do? Digital billboards are a fantastic way of actually getting people to travel from outside of your area, to come into your area, again to increase the number of people that you in turn have the chance to sell to. The NZ Blood service started using small LED displays on the side of the road advising motorists there was a mobile Blood Centre in a local car park where they could donate blood. They have found that a highly effective way to significantly increase the number of blood donations they're getting every week, and it's a really good example of what can be achieved if you draw the message to the attention of cars in another area, that you definitely would not get had you not advertised that message.

In 2019 the American Small Business Administration recommends 7-8% of your sales should be spent on marketing if you're a small business. This is a very good rule of thumb. While it might change across industries in New Zealand, if you do not have a set budget that grows each year as you do, then it is very likely you will be missing out on realising the full potential of the profits you could be making.

It's pretty obvious that online marketing is important, as you can reach so many people for such a low investment. But what are you going to do once they turn off their PC or put down their mobile phone? Letterbox drops are not very effective, and television and radio is very expensive. Spending $126.00/week on your local large billboard has to be one of the easiest ways on earth to ensure you don't miss out on all those additional sales, currently going to your competitors in a neighbouring suburb. If a potential customer walks past and you say nothing - you won't get any business.

If you hit them with a reason to come and see you - they will.

As people walk and drive past your business give them a reason to come in and buy. If they're already in your store then give them to reason to actually buy (and not leave empty-handed)
